Personality & Traits
General Overview | Gerry was a career officer almost from birth. His father, Gerald Wainwright II, was a captain already by the time Gerry could walk and encouraged his son to pursue a career in Star Fleet. Gerry didn't go into Research and Development like his father, which caused some disappointment and friction between them until Gerry left engineering for the command track. Gerry is an intense man with little time for humor or small talk typically.
Strengths & Weaknesses | Strengths: Gerry keeps up with engineering trends despite being in the command track for several years. He stays in shape and loves to run. Gerry has a history of mentoring younger officers. Weaknesses: Following an incident where he lost several members of his crew, his XO included, Gerry was removed from command and demoted from Captain to Commander and reassigned to a Starbase. Gerry has a sense of loss and guilt and is brusque and aloof with new people since. |
|
Ambitions | Gerry wants to help out younger officers to develop and retire at 65.
Hobbies & Interests | Gerry likes to hike and camp on holodecks or hospitable planets. In his spare time, he is working on restoring a shuttlecraft from the 2340s that he acquired in a trade with a Ferengi during his years as an engineering Ensign on the USS Tatanka. Gerry regularly reads engineering papers and trade publications to keep up-to-date on the latest happenings in the field of engineering and warp field theory. |
Personal History | Gerry was raised by his mother while his father was out in space pursuing his career. Gerry’s father visited their home in Maine on Earth at most twice a year, but always encouraged his son to pursue Research and Development like he had done, almost to the point of being pushy. Gerry was more fascinated by engineering and specifically warp field technology, and took an internship on UPFY Mars after secondary school for several years, where he met his first wife, Janine. Janine and Gerry were married while Gerry was in the Academy and she lived in an apartment in Haight Ashbury and waited to go back to space with her husband. When Gerry got his first duty assignment, he asked Janine to stay back on Earth while he found his space legs and established himself. They grew distant and by the time Gerry was back on Earth awaiting his assignment to the Apeiron, the two fought almost constantly for several days and ended up getting a separation. The divorce was final and Gerry vowed to focus on his career while aboard the Apeiron, rising to Assistant Chief of Engineering. While being transferred to the North Dakota, Gerry met Mary-Louise Alpharetta and the two hit it off and began to correspond. Eventually Mary-Louise came aboard the North Dakota and the two got married. Gerald Wainwright IV was born while Gerry was stationed on the North Dakota and later the family was transferred to the USS Maine. Aboard the USS Maine, Gerry rose to the rank of Captain and was made the Commanding Officer when Captain Felkirk retired. Mary-Louise and Gerald IV were off the ship visiting family on New Italy when an encounter with a rogue ship of Cardassians cost the lives of two away teams and the XO, Lt. Cmdr. Jesse McCracken. Gerry was demoted to Commander and reassigned to Starbase 47 to instruct a course in advanced warp field engineering theory and to undergo psychiatric evaluation and therapy for his experience. |
